Susan Brownknight, CEO of Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled (LADD)

Susan is a nonprofit executive with over 20 years of experience leading and/or working with local, state, and national organizations. She can provide the vision, strategic planning, and effective fundraising to pursue and achieve a just mission that furthers inclusive, vibrant, and sustainable communities. 

Philip Cunningham, Director, Strong Consulting 

As Director of Strong Consulting, Philip leads the strategic direction and program operations for Strong Cincinnati. He provides coaching and supervision for the Strong Team. While working with Mayerson Academy’s Strong Cincinnati Institute, which engages cohorts of local organizations in using strengths-based practices to transform workplace cultures and unleash the potential of people in order to increase performance, he’s shown himself to be a talented facilitator, consultant, strategist, and relationship builder. In addition, Philip also provides consultation on topics such as organizational development, adult learning, leadership development, public and private partnerships, educational product development, design thinking and workforce development. Before joining Mayerson Academy, Philip led marketing and development efforts at McGraw Hill Education/Cengage Learning as the Market Development Team Leader and Marketing Manager. Philip earned his MBA from the University of Toledo.

Mary Delaney, Executive Director and Founder of Community Matters

Mary has worked in the Lower Price Hill community since 2010 as an educator, organizer, and non-profit leader. In 2014, she helped found Community Matters. As a community organizer, she believes in the power and potential of the Lower Price Hill community. Mary leads Community Matters with a focus on investing in the strengths and assets within the community to build a thriving and equitable future. Mary holds a BA in International Affairs from Xavier University, with a focus on international economic development. In addition to her work at Community Matters, Mary currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Leadership Council for Nonprofits, the Ohio CDC Association, and the WCPO Community Advisory Board.

Wes Ernst, Director of Health Care and Non-Profit Entities at BKD

Wes serves a range of clients in the health care and non-profit industries. Specifically, I focus on providing audit and consulting services to health systems, community health centers, foundations, and universities.

Vanessa Freytag, CEO at 4C for Children

The mission of 4C for Children is to educate and support the adults who care for young children and advocate for public support for quality early education and care for all children.  4C was founded in 1972 by a coalition of agencies and funders with the purpose of coordinating, planning, and advocating for quality child care for working families. Early work included planning studies, training, and technical assistance. In the 1980s a strong focus was added—to assist parents in finding and choosing child care and to increase the supply of quality care. Subsequently, 4C has built its services to families along with concentration on improving the quality of early learning and care for all children.

Jessica Haag, CPA, Director, BKD CPAs and Advisors

Jessica has over 13 years of experience providing assurance, accounting, consulting, and compliance services to colleges and universities, foundations, and other not-for-profit organizations. Experience with audits under Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) and Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), internal control evaluation and best practices, financial reporting, and accounting standards implementation.

As an Office Champion of BKD's SKY Initiative, I promote the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategies by acting as an inclusion advocate, facilitating live educational events, provide recommendations to the SKY Advisory Council and collaborate with other SKY Champions and the SKY Advisory Council. 

Michael Jones, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Cincinnati

Michael Jones is an Associate Professor, Educator of Economics at the University of Cincinnati. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Notre Dame and his M.B.A. from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he worked as a Senior Research Analyst for the Nielsen Company and as a Senior Business Development Manager at Cincinnati Bell. He is currently the Executive Director for the Kautz-Uible Economics Institute and the Academic Director for the MS Applied Economics program at the University of Cincinnati.

Priya Klocek, President & CEO of Consultant on the Go LLC

Priya Dhingra Klocek is a business consultant, executive coach, mentor, and facilitator. She is the President & CEO of Consultant On The Go LLC, a consulting firm that focuses on diagnosing and improving the fundamental human interactions upon which all successful businesses are built.

Joe Moorman, Senior Director of Organizational and Community Development at Mayerson Academy

As Senior Director of Organizational and Community Development, Joe leads Mayerson Academy’s efforts to strengthen workplaces and neighborhoods across Cincinnati and beyond. He has led the development of MA’s Strong Cincinnati Institute, which engages cohorts of local organizations in using strengths-based practices to transform workplace engagement, performance, and wellbeing. He also provides strategic consultation and coaching to individuals and organizations on topics such as professional learning, change management, leadership development, program design, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prior to joining Mayerson Academy, Joe worked in several roles for Teach For America, including as Senior Managing Director for Teach For America’s Arkansas region, Chief of Staff for Regional Operations, and Founding Executive Director for Teach For America – Delaware. He discovered his passion for education as a 7th and 8th grade English teacher and head basketball coach in Philadelphia. Joe received his undergraduate degree from Xavier University’s Philosophy, Politics and the Public honors program and earned his M.Ed in urban education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Jeff O'Neil, President & CEO of Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health Services

Jeff O’Neil started with GCB in 1991, working the night shift in one of the organization’s intensive residential group homes. He held various positions within the organization, eventually becoming the Director of Care Management and overseeing the launch of GCB’s Primary and Behavioral Healthcare Integration program. He served as the Associate Programs Officer before being appointed President / CEO in 2013. Jeff has spent his entire career in the field of mental health and has always enjoyed worked shoulder-to-shoulder with others who feel a genuine passion for helping this population. Now, he is excited to lead an organization that develops leading-edge services that help people with severe mental illnesses. Jeff has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master’s in Education from Xavier University, with a focus in Agency and Community Counseling. He holds an independent clinical licensure (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor). Jeff also served in the Ohio National Guard for six years.

Jane Page Steiner, President & CEO of JPS Nonprofit Strategies

Jane Page-Steiner, president of JPS Nonprofit Strategies is a respected nonprofit consultant and public speaker. She has been a part of the not-for-profit community for more than 28 years. Jane founded JPS Nonprofit Strategies in 2007 because of her passion and commitment to helping nonprofits with organizational and board development. She provides customized training and planning that enables nonprofits to realize their goals. Jane works with nonprofits to quickly and accurately assess organizational needs and create a customized process that builds group consensus on solutions and next steps.

Jane’s years as a consultant and her first-hand experiences as an Executive Director and a board member offer nonprofits the opportunity to work with someone who uniquely understands the culture and challenges of nonprofits.

Jane is a BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer. She partners with BoardSource to provide trainings and workshops that enable board members and staff to work more efficiently and effectively. She joined this select group of expert trainers after completing a rigorous application and certification process and is now certified to deliver BoardSource’s signature nonprofit governance trainings. Barkha Patel, Director of Education and Senior Counsel at Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio

Barkha Patel, Director of Education and Senior Counsel at Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio, focuses on nonprofit-specific legal issues and nonprofit education. Barkha provides direct legal services to nonprofit groups, coordinates and supervises the work of volunteer attorneys, and lectures on legal issues for nonprofits and attorneys.

Prior to joining PBPO, Barkha was an attorney in private practice, returned to graduate business school, and worked for a global performance management company. She is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association Nonprofit Law Practice Group and a Cincinnati Academy of Leadership for Lawyers (CALL) class graduate.

Jorge Perez, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati

Jorge Perez is the president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, a leading nonprofit organization that operates 14 branches, one overnight camp, and 80 childhood learning centers across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. He is the first Latino-American to lead the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati in its 164-year history of offering programs and services that nurture the potential of every adult and child, promoting health and well-being and encouraging social responsibility.

Michele Plessinger, Partner

Michele joined Gilman Partners in 2004 and is the co-leader of our Nonprofit Leadership Practice. Michele enjoys leading nonprofit searches because of the deep relationships she builds with search committees and the impact each hire has on both the organization and the community. In addition to her work with nonprofit organizations, Michele leads executive/C-suite searches as well as senior-level searches in finance and accounting, manufacturing, operations, human resources, and sales/marketing.

Michele came to Gilman Partners with 15 years of HR, recruiting, and labor relations experience in manufacturing, technology, and consulting firms. Early in her career she worked in HR/labor relations with General Motors and then in New York City with healthcare and technology consulting firms. A Deloitte alumna, Michele has extensive expertise in recruiting for the consulting, finance, and accounting industries. She has evaluated the behavioral assessments of thousands of job candidates and currently leads Gilman Partners’ use of the Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment.

Scott Provancher, President & CEO of Ignite Philanthropy

Scott is the founder and CEO of Ignite Philanthropy, a philanthropic consulting firm based in Cincinnati. Ignite Philanthropy works with private donors and non-profit organizations to  leverage their resources and ideas to achieve greater impact in the communities they serve. In 2020, Ignite raised over $55 million for its non-profit clients and distributed more than $6 million in community grant making through its foundation partners.

A recipient of The Association of Fundraising Professionals’ highest international fundraising honor, the Campbell & Company Award for Excellence in Fundraising, Scott has helped to raise over $750 million for organizations and community initiatives throughout his career. Prior to Ignite Philanthropy, Scott served as President of the Arts & Science Council where he led efforts to secure over $100 million in public and private support for Charlotte’s cultural sector. A seasoned non-profit executive, Scott also served as Vice President and Campaign Director for ArtsWave, Executive Director of the Louisville Orchestra and the Rockford Symphony, and held fundraising positions for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.

Beth Schwartz, President & CEO of Cincinnati Union Bethel

Beth has 18+ years of experience in dynamic organizational settings, including the past 13 years in positions of bottom-line accountability.  She has a demonstrated history of success in creating and implementing comprehensive nonprofit programs.  She is adept at developing multimillion-dollar partnerships with public funders, private donors, and foundations.  She is a hands-on leader who is accessible, relatable, and connected to clients and staff.  She is an effective communicator highly skilled in multiple environments.  She has served as the President and CEO of Cincinnati Union Bethel since November of 2017.  Prior to CUB, Beth served as the CEO of Jewish Family Service from 2006 to 2017.

Beth Short, Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General's Office

Beth Short handles outreach and education for the Ohio Attorney General's charitable law section and has spent her career working for and with nonprofit organizations. Short's work in the charitable law section focuses on the development of strategies aimed at strengthening the nonprofit sector.

Calista Smith, President, Scale Strategic Solutions

In 2011, Calista Smith began C H Smith & Associates dba Scale Strategic Solutions to transform information into action. 

Smith leads the organization in service to efforts focused on the greater good for communities. In her work with Scale Strategic Solutions, Calista has served as project manager and lead consultant on implementation and program evaluation projects for Interact for Health, Ohio Department of Higher Education, the Ohio Department of Education, Westat, and regional councils of the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund. Her work has also included strategic planning services and stakeholder facilitation. She has facilitated strategic planning processes for organizations such as the Institute for Higher Education Policy, GRAD Cincinnati, Civitas Development Group, and Middletown Moving Forward.

Before starting the firm, Calista was supervisor of development at Butler Tech and had previously managed industrial programs for adult workforce education for the career-technical school district. Calista was also as a senior consultant with Haverstick Consulting, facilitating teams in project management methodologies to create business plans and implement technology applications. Calista started her career with KnowledgeWorks Foundation, holding various roles in public relations, program evaluation, development, and grant selection and monitoring.

Calista is a certified project management professional (PMP) with a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and bachelor's degrees in Communications and the Honors Program from Villanova University.

Calista also volunteers as board president of Lydia’s House, Inc., a shelter and permanent stable housing community in the Catholic Worker hospitality tradition, and as chair of the St. Gabriel Consolidated School curriculum committee.

Janice Weiss, Senior Manager of Strengths-Based Initiatives at Mayerson Academy

As Senior Manager Strengths-Based Initiatives, Janice collaborates with organizations and businesses to infuse workplace cultures with a strengths-based mindset, sharing hands-on character-strength tools uniquely designed to inspire authentic employee well-being and everyday associate engagement. She’s a serial entrepreneur who launched a fruit and vegetable-themed cookie company called Yucky Cookies in her third year of law school in Philadelphia. While Janice’s “sweet dreams” eventually crumbled, it allowed her to pivot from law into a marketing career that combined over fifteen years of classic consumer product management in Fortune 100 companies with nine years of employee engagement and internal branding work at Macy’s Inc. Originally from New York, Janice brought her family to Cincinnati almost twenty years ago, falling in love with everything Cincy from the moment they arrived. Driven by her signature strengths of fairness and gratitude, Janice’s personal passion is to fight for social justice and, in the words of Dr. Neal Mayerson, “help tip humanity towards its better nature.”

Create community through art

The Wave Pool Board is seeking Board members who have a passion for art, community building, social justice and more. Based in the Camp Washington neighborhood of Cincinnati, Wave Pool believes strongly in the power of art and community. As it prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025, the Board is embarking on a new chapter. It is a wonderful time of transition and new challenges. Help artists and the community create change together. Be part of a quest to create a more connected, joyous, and equitable world.
 
Founded in 2015, Wave Pool connects experimental artists and communities to create change for issues such as mental health and trauma recovery, food access, holistic support for local artists, immigrant/refugee empowerment and advocacy and more. The organization is dynamic--its space includes an art gallery, studios, artist residency program, wood shop, ceramics studio, and community gathering space. Values driving the organization are service, consideration, community, experimentation and optimism.

Change generations one mom at a time

MomsHope provides hope to single, low-income moms through one-on-one faith-based mentoring in order to support resource development, personal advancement, spiritual growth, and family stability. By changing the trajectory for single moms and their children, MomsHope’s impact will be felt for years to come. Moms and their mentors delve into financial goals, spiritual needs, life skills, and health and wellness. Children have more stable lives, are likely to stay in school, avoid criminal activity, and develop a healthier view of self. Many of the mom-grads earn college degrees and become first-time home owners.

 

You can help guide single moms in a way that empowers this kind of self-sufficiency and breaks the cycle of poverty. The Board seeks two additional board members in order to grow its excellent leadership team and to expand services to additional area locations. Knowledge of social services or experience in government assistance/family services is desirable. Those passionate about women’s empowerment, preventing poverty, child welfare, spiritual sustenance, and life skills are great candidates. Legal experience and fundraising skills are always a plus. Also now accepting mentoring applications.

“Mission Accomplished” is a half-day master class exclusively for nonprofit board chairs and vice-chairs. Covering everything from working with the CEO to building an engaged board, the focus is practical solutions to persistent problems facing board leaders.

People Working Cooperatively performs critical home repairs and services so low-income homeowners, veterans and those living with disabilities can remain in their homes living independently and healthier in a safe, sound environment. Gearing up now for its 50th anniversary in 2025, PWC started with two men and a dream and has now accomplished more than 325,000 projects. Services include: home repairs, energy conservation/weatherization services, accessibility modifications, lead paint poisoning education/prevention and more. PWC proudly serves more than 5,000 area homes annually. This is all made possible by more than 115 licensed, professionally trained staff and 3,000 plus volunteers - one of the largest volunteer corps in our region.

Prepare tomorrow’s workforce

iSPACE provides innovative and engaging STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) educational programs in Greater Cincinnati. Established over 22 years ago, it is a one-of-a-kind organization with a mission to ignite passion for science and technology so that all learners are prepared to thrive in tomorrow’s workforce. Through wonderfully immersive, hands-on, minds-on experiences, iSPACE fosters interest in STEM and develops pathways to STEM careers for over 30,000 students and teachers annually through field trips, summer camps, STEM competitions, professional development, and other programs. 

 

It reaches out to students, teachers, families, and professionals. iSPACE offers exceptional programs for students, with an emphasis on K-8 and underrepresented groups so they can explore and develop an interest in STEM disciplines, learn about STEM careers and be inspired to pursue these critical roles. It’s also known for its Educator Academy - one of the most effective STEM educator professional programs in the region. The Board is composed of area educators, business leaders, and individuals who volunteer time and talents to advance education in STEM. Seeking committee and Board members who love life-long learning, youth and workforce development, STEM, and education.

Working to restore families

There are an estimated 16,000 young people, ages 0-18, within the Ohio foster care system. Hope’s Closet is committed to serving as many of them as possible through foster parent support programs, training, a clothing boutique, and much more. Located in West Chester, the service area spans a 27-county region through Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana. As part of our succession planning, the Board is looking for those with previous board service who can step into leadership roles such as chair, vice chair, treasurer, secretary or committee chair. 

 

Hope’s Closet offers a suite of foster parent support programs and activities designed to build community and provide resources. It strives to be a catalyst for change to restore families when possible. There are many moving parts to the foster care system - from finding foster parents, to funding, to making sure foster families have enough resources. Hope’s Closet aims to lighten that load – and you can, too!

Camp Washington Urban Revitalization Corporation is a non profit community development corporation that is building a neighborhood of industry, artistry, and community with roots tracing back to 1975. It has saved over 50 properties and has revitalized the Camp Washington neighborhood. It assists businesses with building improvements, helps to increase home ownership, and improves the neighborhood's physical environment - all of this with national and local partnerships and a strong voice from those who live and work here. The Hopple Street Entryway and the 2963 Colerain Avenue building are just two of the current projects.

The World Affairs Council is the bridge that connects the world to Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. It is proud of its 100-year-old history and its mission to ignite our community’s engagement in foreign affairs and its diverse cultures. Through global education, international exchange, and cultural awareness initiatives, the Council strengthens international identity and engages individuals with foreign affairs. The Council brings the world to local classrooms, hosts international delegates and exchange visitors (including with the State Department), and provides cultural guides/many other resources.

 

Currently seeking to grow the Board with those who are passionate about education, international affairs, and celebrating our region with a global mindset. Help turn lives around

Crossroads Center is a 70-year-old non-profit community agency that provides culturally appropriate mental health and addictions treatment services, offering a comprehensive set of services that include:

  • Intensive outpatient and inpatient treatment
  • Substance abuse and mental health services (SAMI)
  • Adolescent outpatient services
  • Medication assisted treatment
  • Addiction prevention services

The organization relies on 75 professional staff of social workers, counselors, psychologists, and physicians to provide evidence-based intervention strategies and compassionate care. Accredited through CARF and The Joint Commission and licensed by Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The Crossroads Center has recently completed a strategic plan and will build a new facility over the next 2 years to meet growing and changing needs.

 

The board of 11 members seeks 3 new members to begin serving in winter 2024. The board’s role is advocacy for and governance of the organization and is currently looking for new members with a passion for addiction recovery.  In addition, the board is seeking those with skills in PR, business, law, and fund development.

Help children with challenges

Building Blocks for Kids, established in 2003, is on a mission to provide support, resources, scholarships, and hope to families who have children with physical, emotional, and/or developmental challenges. You can make such a difference through therapy, home modifications, medical equipment, community events for families, and much more. Read their kids’ stories here.

 

The board is currently implementing new strategies and direction. It seeks to add two-three new members who want to help create happier and healthier lives for children with special needs. An interest in outreach, development, community engagement, and IT is also desirable.

 

Break the cycle of addiction

You can support Glad House in providing a safe and therapeutic community to empower families to break the cycle of addiction. GLAD House, a certified mental health and alcohol and drug prevention agency, works with high-risk youth impacted emotionally and behaviorally by a family member's addiction. These children, often in foster care, are 3-4 times more likely than others to become addicted to alcohol and drugs, and are also more likely to have learning disabilities, be truant, repeat more grades, transfer schools and be expelled. GLAD House provides comprehensive interventions through individual and group treatment - primarily in after school and summer programs - to move children in need beyond destructive family patterns. The demand for this care is greater than ever and the Board is currently considering agency expansion.

 

This working board of twelve is ready to add 2-3 members. Currently seeking those who have interest in children, addiction prevention, and striving for purposeful lives free from substance abuse. Experience in the following areas is desirable: program development, construction, facilities management, marketing, and fundraising. You can make a difference!

 

Unlock the power & potential of girls

Girls on the Run has a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.  Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health. Serving over 30,000 girls since 2004. Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to enhance participants' social, emotional and physical skills to successfully navigate life experiences. Fun, interactive lessons meet the unique needs of participants of all abilities and backgrounds. 

 

Seeking to immediately add 2-3 Board members to help grow for now and the future. Looking for Board members who know the regional landscape, those with financial background/understanding, business knowledge and/or non-profit experience. Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is an international network of non-profit, volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. Each year LBFE serves hundreds of tri–state elderly through outreach programs designed to relieve isolation and loneliness and to assist in living quality lives. Includes monthly programs/outings, 1-1 visiting, holiday parties, and more. The organization currently seeks to fill 2-3 open Board positions, welcoming candidates who have a passion for this mission. Seeking new diverse members for Young Professionals Board to play an important role in fundraising and advocacy for Cincinnati Works. Cincinnati Works partners with all willing and capable people living in poverty to assist them in advancing to economic self-sufficiency through employment. Learn more about us

 

YP members are needed with a variety of backgrounds and professional experience. Candidates must  be under 35 and are requested to provide resumes sharing their professional experience and contact information. YP members are expected to fundraise for the annual YP campaign, make a modest personal contribution, and participate in at least one committee. Members also are responsible for helping to recruit corporate sponsorships of events. Meetings are held monthly on the 2nd Wednesday from 5:30 until 6:30 pm. 

 

Be an advocate for children who need safe homes

CASA for Clermont Kids has a mission to recruit and manage Court Appointed Special Advocates. It ensures effective, sustained advocacy and safe, permanent, loving homes for neglected, abused, dependent children within Clermont County Juvenile Courts. CASA supporters and volunteers share one passion: safe, permanent, loving homes for neglected and abused children.
 
With 300 volunteers and a 20-year track record, CASA Clermont has served over 1,100 children. The small and very engaged board is in an exciting transitional period as it considers strategic directions. Currently, it needs help with sales/marketing/community outreach/resource development in an effort to seek sponsors and donors.   
 

Empowering people with disabilities

The Center for Independent Living Options, Inc. (CILO) is a non-profit organization that provides services for people with physical, sensory, cognitive, and/or psychological disabilities in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. It is currently focusing on finding a successor for Board treasurer.

 
Founded in 1977 by people with disabilities, the organization empowers people with disabilities to lead independent and inclusive lives in the community. Services provided include: advocacy, information and referral, skills training, peer support, support with home modifications, and transitioning services. CILO is governed, managed and staffed by a majority of people with disabilities. 
 

Be a catalyst for positive change for children

For over 170 years, Beech Acres Parenting Center has strengthened Greater Cincinnati’s children & families. Their mission is to combine science and compassion to deliver innovative solutions that equip adults to meet children’s needs and cultivate their strengths. Their child development specialists have worked with thousands of parents who face a wide variety of challenges. The board focuses on prevention as well as intervention with services such as family engagement, parent resources, therapy, parent enrichment programs, foster care support, family peer networks and more. 

 

As a committee or Board member, you can empower parents and strengthen kids.  You will be a catalyst for positive change as you work with families, schools, and pediatric offices. Bring your interest in children, health care, mental health for kids, and healthy families. An interest in finance, investments, and development is also desirable. 

 

Engage and celebrate past/future of Over-the-Rhine

The Over-the-Rhine Museum uncovers, presents, and preserves the heritage of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Through walking tours, events, and projects, the museum celebrates the history and the people of this historic community.  It is an emerging organization that will be housed in an historic tenement, and will use the stories of that building's residents to explore the larger history of urban America. It is designed to be a vibrant and flexible space that invites and welcomes people of all backgrounds to share the diverse history of Over-the-Rhine.

 

The Board is seeking 2-3 new members who have a love of this neighborhood and are skilled at community engagement. You can help build for the future as the Museum undertakes a capital campaign and gets its new home established. It has the wonderful support of many funders and has received an Historic Places Planning Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. 

 

Changing the Price Hill neighborhood

Community Matters has openings for 2-4 new board members, serving two-year terms, beginning July 1. In particular, the board would like to add members with fundraising, human resources, or education experience. Community Matters is rooted in Lower Price Hill, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strengths-based approach that is changing how neighborhoods develop. Its programs serve four core areas: family sustainability, education pathways, resident leadership, and thriving community.   

 

Jumpstart life in recovery

Transitions, Inc. has achieved excellence in providing care for those on the journey to addiction recovery. The overarching objective for every level of care provided is to jumpstart an individual’s life in recovery. This happens through individualized treatment planning, patient-centered care, evidenced-based intervention strategies and a compassionate commitment to top quality care. Transitions has been at the forefront of providing treatment and recovery services for adults with substance use disorders for over 53 years.

 

A full continuum of care including residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, targeted case management, mental health therapy, medication to assist recovery, on-site health and dental clinics as well as recovery housing offers individuals every opportunity to stabilize. Transitions is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is licensed by the State of Kentucky.

 

The board is seeking two new members who wish to be ambassadors for the organization and our work which is innovative and comprehensive in the addiction field. Looking for those with an interest in strategy, vision, and working to reduce stigma in our community surrounding substance use and mental health. Skills in marketing and PR are also desirable. 

 

Be an advocate for early childhood education and care

4C for Children is a hub for families searching for quality child care and is the largest local provider of training and technical assistance for child care providers in the region. Its mission is to educate and support adults who care for young children and to advocate for public support for quality early education and care for all children. More than 100,000 children in our community are impacted every year through the organization’s programs and services.

 

Make a difference in the lives of families by joining the Board as it executes its 2021 strategic plan which focuses on stabilizing the local child care arena and helping to replenish staffing for area providers. Those with passion for the 4C mission are needed to sustain and build for now and the future. Knowledge of/skills in workforce recruiting, project management, and business process improvement are desirable.

 

Engage and educate: conservation and more

WAVE Foundation is on a mission to engage and educate about the wonders of aquatic life and the importance of conservation. It is an independent 501c (3) organization supporting the Newport Aquarium. WAVE is currently in need of members to assist with fundraising, partnership development, community outreach, and annual event as part of the Resource and Development Committee. Through this Foundation, you can protect the planet, nurture conservation, and help others to experience wonder. Example: WAVE on Wheels is one of the educational programs, bringing a travelling aquarium to schools (to supplement their curricula), daycare centers, senior centers, libraries, and community events. 
 
A new initiative will launch in 2023, Career Exploration, including Women in STEM. Looking for committee members who understand the importance of informal education, have a passion for conservation, and enjoy planning/working special events, and fundraising. Located in the Lockland/Wyoming area, the organization has hundreds of volunteers as well as agency, congregational, and corporate support. Currently seeking to add two Board members to help VICRC thrive today and strategize for the future. Skills in fundraising and development are desirable. Volunteer and/or committee roles also available.
 

Trauma response through training, certification, and collaboration

The mission of Tristate Trauma Network is to create a community-wide commitment to the prevention of and recovery from trauma and toxic stress in the Greater Cincinnati region. The incidence of trauma is estimated to be about 70% in the population, stemming from abuse, violence, addiction, neglect, poverty, mental health needs, and much more. TTN provides vital education to service professionals and providers who see trauma every day in our community.
 
Tristate Trauma Network has been in existence since 2015 and has been certifying professionals of all types in Trauma-responsive Care since 2017. Helping people survive and heal in all age groups, it is truly a network of many community organizations focused on hope and healing. You’ll find service professionals such as counselors, therapists, emergency response professionals, social workers, educators, and so many others seeking education and tools. The strong, working board is focused on system change and is growing. It seeks new board leaders and committee members who have a passion for helping others heal, survive, and thrive. Experience in marketing and PR is helpful, as well as some board experience. 
 

Empower nonprofits with vital tools and expertise

Cincinnati ToolBank serves community-based organizations by providing tools, equipment, and expertise to empower their ability to meet their missions and goals. Through residential living, community homes, adult day care, respite and other services, St. J serves developmentally disabled individuals from infancy through adulthood. It continues to grow and advance in its nonprofit ministry providing individualized care and top medical attention to support full lives.
 
Advancements in disability care and longer life expectancies have increased the need for these amazing services. As it marks its 150th anniversary in 2023, the organization seeks board and committee members who can spread the word and who have a passion to serve in supporting the dignity of life. Skills of interest include: knowledge of HR, technology in the workplace, data analysis, and knowledge of nonprofit law.

Be a catalyst, advocate, and community developer for greater Price Hill. Santa Maria Community Services reaches deeply into its community, focusing on educational, financial, and health goals. It envisions a vibrant, thriving, and self-sustaining community, and is rooted in a strong history. Services include early childhood development (kindergarten readiness and more), education advancement (high school equivalency and more), employment assistance (job search coaching, interview preparation, etc.), tools for financial stability, health and wellness, and youth development.
 
Embarking now on a capital campaign, Santa Maria seeks board members who can bring fresh eyes to help build strong families, promote healthy residents, and foster neighborhood revitalization. Currently seeking board and committee members to shape the present and the future. Some board experience is helpful but not required. Interest in development, construction, or neighborhood development is welcomed.
 

Mindfulness and well-being. Overcoming trauma, anxiety, and stress

Through Project Yoga, healing has touched over 40,000 at-risk and underserved individuals who deal with anxiety, stress, and trauma. Project Yoga’s mission is to bring the healing and therapeutic benefits of yoga and mindfulness to underserved and at-risk individuals. It changes lives and delivers well-being to individuals from ages 3 to 103, teaching tools to respond, versus react to difficult emotions, pain and stress.
 
Project Yoga has a fun and vibrant leadership team and leads with open and mindful awareness. Seeking board and committee members with diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Current needs are in marketing, fundraising, and donor relations.
 

Healing and support for motherless daughters

If you have interest and passion for helping women, there is a place for you in supporting women who have experienced mother loss through death, absence, or other separations. The Motherless Daughters Ministry, Inc. is a Christian organization dedicated to serving women who have lost or missed the nurturing care of a mother. After 20-years in existence, the organization has seen growth in numbers and in wonderful ways to connect women on this journey.
 
In addition to onsite, online, and individual e-learning courses, this ministry reaches more than 10,000 individuals through its Facebook page. There’s individual coaching, a YouTube channel, and a new bi-weekly podcast, along with the amazing support of others who are overcoming mother loss of all kinds. Mentoring vulnerable teens to healthy adulthood

Mentoring Partners of Cincinnati provides mentoring to high school teens 14-18 by collaborating with businesses and community partners. The organization provides each teen with a partner (mentor), a vision (future they desire), and a pathway to achieve it. MPC helps youth who have had traumatic, unsafe, or challenging lives.

 

Primarily in Butler County. It maintains a growing team of business and community partners that excel in mentoring high school youth in relationships, academics, career, and spirituality/values – all designed to launch vulnerable teens into healthy adulthood. Mentors change lives! Board seeks new members who wish to support life and career skills, education, mental health, and trauma recovery. Currently, MPC is a small board in need of expansion, with leadership skills and experience as a high priority.

Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio is all about mental health & wellness, as well as the prevention of mental/substance use disorders. It offers support groups, pro bono counseling, peer support training, mental health first aid, and more. Serving both community members and professionals, MHA provides education, on-line mental health screenings, and safety net services to preserve and strengthen mental wellness. 
 
Mental Health America's mission is to educate, advocate and serve:

May We Help is a game-changer for people with disabilities who strive to become more independent or pursue a personal passion. Its mission is to design and create custom solutions for individuals with special needs. Through a group of committed volunteers, this organization designs, builds, and delivers equipment at no cost to hundreds of people each year. Volunteer engineers, welders, woodworkers, seamstresses, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists and others team up to help others defy limits. In 2022, May We Help is on track to receive just shy of 1,000 requests.

Help grow support for children with autism

Linden Grove School provides specialized learning for K-8 students with autism and related learning needs. With 1 in 44 children diagnosed on the autism spectrum, the Board is seeking new members to help with its plan for growth. LGS offers a small school setting with low teacher-student ratios - integrating academics, social-emotional learning, specialized support (such as speech & occupational therapy), and school events & activities (such as school carnivals, field days, etc.) 
 
LGS began 30+years ago as a small parent cooperative and continues to grow to address increasing community needs. It partners with families, teachers, and others to ensure that students feel safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. It helps worlds to change for families whose children do not fit the mainstream education system. The Board currently seeks those with marketing, legal, and strategic planning skills.

Aging well has been a priority at Life Enriching Communities for over 120 years. This organization is an integrated family of lifestyle communities and senior living services. It is the parent company of Twin Towers and Twin Lakes plus four other communities in Ohio. Affiliated with the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, LEC is a private, not-for-profit corporation. It is headquartered locally and welcomes people of all faiths and those that do not claim one. Currently, LEC is seeking board member candidates who have an interest in impacting the future of senior living. Sales and marketing experience is a plus.

In just the past 10 years, Cincinnati Beautiful has educated 200,000+ children, planted 100,000+ trees and flowers, coordinated 120,000+ volunteers, and painted 1,000+ buildings. It also collects millions of pounds of litter and tires, removes graffiti, and shuts down illegal dumpsites.

Catholic Charities of Covington, established in 1931, serves all people in its Diocese who lack basic human needs, including physical, spiritual, or emotional, regardless of religious beliefs. It is a member of Catholic Charities USA and partners with a variety of organizations to meet community needs. It supports and empowers clients to achieve self-sufficiency by providing guidance, tools, and life-skills. The comprehensive array of services includes social work case management, a soup kitchen, mobile food pantry, mental health services, jail ministry, housing services, and much more.  The agency has experienced a 40% increase in volume over the last 2 years. As community needs are growing, the organization is looking at future expansion of its services. New board and/or committee members are needed to help plan for current and future needs. Bring your skills to canine companion training

Caped Canines Assistance Academy was founded with the goal of helping to ease the burden for those who need a canine companion. CCAA focuses on serving individuals who could benefit from an assistance dog, and who have the ability to self-train their dog, but do not have the knowledge or skill set. Through a unique approach, CCAA is able to reduce costs and timetables significantly in getting dogs ready for service by using a dual training system where dogs are housed part-time with professional trainers and part-time with their handlers.

 

Opened in 2021, the organization benefits greatly from founders who have a combined 25 years in dog training. This non-profit is incorporated in Kentucky and is passionate about its vision to help clients receive the education and support needed in order to train an assistance dog.

SOTENI International is seeking board members to help us build healthy, empowered, and prosperous communities in Kenya and Eswatini. At SOTENI, we work to prevent and mitigate the effects of disease, especially HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 through community-driven solutions. We have also expanded our programming to include access to safe drinking water in partnership with P&G, income-generating activities, and women’s empowerment.

 

SOTENI comes from the Swahili phrase, sisi sote pamoja, which means, “all of us together.” Our dedicated Cincinnati-based Board collaborates with our Kenyan and Swazi Boards to fund and operate this organization. We are now seeking committee and/or Board members who care about healthcare, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, food insecurity, women’s empowerment, and international aid. Those with fundraising, marketing, and finance skills are especially of interest.
