In the 1940s, a multi-racial, multi-religious group of Cincinnatians set out to create an African American museum in Walnut Hills and give tribute to Harriet Beecher Stowe. Almost 76 years ago, it opened to the public and since then, the stories of this house have captured the imagination of generations. Today, the Harriet Beecher Stowe House celebrates this heritage to sustain and grow the legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the Beecher family’s Cincinnati home, and its time as the Edgemont Inn. It is a nationally acclaimed historic site, educational resource, and relationship builder, connecting past events to communities today. The house was beautifully restored in 2024. The original part of the house looks like 1840, while a later addition has been restored to 1940 when it was an African American boarding house, community center, and tavern. 

Through field trips, student groups, speaker outreach, tours, discussions, and more, the story continues. The nonprofit Friends of Harriet Beecher Stowe House manages the Cincinnati home where the Beecher family lived during Harriet’s formative years that led her to write Uncle Tom’s Cabin. This historic site is part of the Ohio History Connection’s network of more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.

Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub (or the Hub) is on a mission to revolutionize how people think about “things” and to provide a place where almost anything can be recycled or reused. It is changing perceptions of waste and the actual amount of waste going to landfills. It fills gaps in recycling services by collecting materials that cannot go into curbside bins and serves as a central point for many reusable resources. Includes a "shop" where community members can take items free of charge.

In 2024, the Hub hit the exciting milestone of 1 million pounds diverted from the landfill through its recycling and reuse initiatives. It has rapidly grown in just 3 years from a grassroots organization to a thriving enterprise. It partners with many organizations to live its values and achieve its goals. Animal Friends Humane Society (Butler County) was established in 1952 and is Butler County’s largest, oldest non-profit animal shelter. Its mission is to promote humane principles, to protect lost, homeless, abandoned, and mistreated animals, and to act as advocates for animals in area communities. It is committed to nationally recognized best practices for animal shelters and is successful in maintaining high live release rates while providing individual care to local pets in need. The new 22,500 sq. foot facility has top-notch amenities for its shelter population which is located in Hamilton. More than 5,000 animals enter the AFHS doors each year.

The Board seeks two additional board members in order to grow its excellent leadership team and to expand services to additional area locations. Caped Canines Assistance Academy was founded with the goal of helping to ease the burden for those who need a canine companion. CCAA focuses on serving individuals who could benefit from an assistance dog, and who have the ability to self-train their dog, but do not have the knowledge or skill set. Through a unique approach, CCAA is able to reduce costs and timetables significantly in getting dogs ready for service by using a dual training system where dogs are housed part-time with professional trainers and part-time with their handlers.

Opened in 2021, the organization benefits greatly from founders who have a combined 25 years in dog training. This non-profit is incorporated in Kentucky and is passionate about its vision to help clients receive the education and support needed in order to train an assistance dog. CCAA is currently seeking a board member with legal expertise in employment law and other contract needs.

Project Yoga‘s mission is to bring the healing and therapeutic benefits of yoga and mindfulness to underserved communities. Our trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness programs are designed to nurture mental health, foster physical well-being, and cultivate a sense of connection and belonging for all. We collaborate with schools, shelters, social service organizations, and other community-based nonprofits to introduce safe yoga movements, mindfulness, meditation, and breathing exercises. Through the lens of trauma-informed yoga, our classes empower individuals with life-changing coping skills that support mental health, promote peace, and build resiliency.   

Project Yoga has a fun and vibrant leadership team and leads with open and mindful awareness. We are seeking board and committee members with diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Current needs are in leadership/governance, fundraising/development, and finance, but all interest is welcome. Committee opportunities are also available. 

Transitions, Inc. has achieved excellence in providing care for those on the journey to addiction recovery. The overarching objective for every level of care provided is to jumpstart an individual’s life in recovery. This happens through individualized treatment planning, patient-centered care, evidenced-based intervention strategies and a compassionate commitment to top quality care. Transitions has been at the forefront of providing treatment and recovery services for adults with substance use disorders for over 55 years.

A full continuum of care including residential treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, targeted case management, mental health therapy, medication to assist recovery, on-site health and dental clinics as well as recovery housing offers individuals every opportunity to stabilize. Transitions is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is licensed by the State of Kentucky.

The board is seeking two new members who wish to be ambassadors for the organization and our work which is innovative and comprehensive in the addiction field. Looking for those with an interest in strategy, vision, and working to reduce stigma in our community surrounding substance use and mental health. Skills in marketing and PR are also desirable. 

CASA for Clermont Kids has a mission to recruit and manage Court Appointed Special Advocates. It ensures effective, sustained advocacy and safe, permanent, loving homes for neglected, abused, dependent children within Clermont County Juvenile Courts. CASA supporters and volunteers share one passion: safe, permanent, loving homes for neglected and abused children.

Cincinnati Computer Reuse brings computers back to life! When businesses replace laptops and workstations, Cincinnati Computer Reuse recycles or refurbishes surplus equipment. Since 2002, the mission has been to provide a safe disposal option for businesses needing to clear out unused computer equipment and to get the best of the equipment to those who need it. To do this, CCR is presently in need of boosting inventory to ensure an adequate supply of good quality (gen 8 and newer) laptops and desktops for refurbishing. This recycling service separates equipment into saleable parcels. CCR has diverted more than 5 million pounds of e-waste from local landfills. The sale of recyclable materials supports computer refurbishing efforts, bringing in about 20% of CCR income.
 
Primary clients of CCR are low-income families, nonprofits, and schools in Greater Cincinnati who need access to affordable technology. CCR has distributed more than 14,000 computers since beginning operations. As a Microsoft Authorized Third-Party Refurbisher, all computers sold are securely erased and loaded with legal, licensed software. A dedicated volunteer workforce and one part-time employee help to make this happen.  

The Board is looking to add new board members who can serve as ambassadors to local businesses and organizations to help secure a steady supply of computer equipment for both recycling and refurbishing. CCR is on the lookout for working board members to help staff our operations. Skills in IT and business development are also desirable. 

The Crossroads Center is a 74-year-old non-profit community agency that provides culturally appropriate mental health, addictions treatment, and addiction prevention programs including:

• Women’s Residential Adult Programs
• Adult Residential Care Programs
• Outpatient Adult Programs – Substance Abuse and Mental Illness Programs (SAMI)
• Adolescent Outpatient Programs
• Medication Assisted Treatment

The organization relies on a dynamic team of 75 staff, including social workers, counselors, psychologists, and physicians to provide evidence-based intervention strategies and compassionate care. The Crossroads Center programs are accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and licensed by Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Our strategic plan includes building a new facility to meet the current and changing needs of our community and patients. The planned move-in date is August 2026.

The board of 11 members seeks 3 new members. The board’s role is advocacy for and governance of the organization and is currently looking for new members with a passion for addiction recovery.
