The Securing the Future conference has been expanded to a full day in 2025, providing more sessions and more time for networking. Mission in Action: Amplifying Your Voice Through Advocacy

Engaging in advocacy is the most significant way nonprofits can serve their missions and influence their communities. While nonprofits are vital voices in shaping public policy, they often lack the capacity to incorporate advocacy as a core element of their mission. To empower nonprofit professionals as advocates, we are offering a comprehensive learning series designed to teach the skills, strategies, and processes of effective advocacy. Facilitated by Gina Marsh, this series will equip participants with actionable tools to strengthen their organizations’ advocacy efforts.

Development of this series was made possible through a grant from The Murray and Agnes Seasongood Good Government Foundation.


Program Overview
The series will include the following in-person sessions, 9:00 – 11:00 am, every other Tuesday from Sept. 30 – Nov. 25. We encourage registration for the full series (which gets you 5 for the price of 4), but you may also register for individual sessions.

Sept. 30: Policy and Advocacy 101
Gain foundational knowledge about policymaking and specific steps you can take to start advocating on behalf of your organization.

• Advocacy and its importance to the nonprofit sector.

• The various types of public policy.

• Advocacy vs. lobbying and how nonprofits can do both.

• The process of building an advocacy agenda.

• Specific ways to start advocating.


Oct. 14: Developing an Advocacy Plan
Learn to create a strategic roadmap for advocacy tailored to your organization’s mission.

Leadership Development in a safe, supportive, confidential space
 
Have you ever wished you had a trusted group of nonprofit peers to coach, encourage, validate, challenge, support and hold you accountable as you grow as a leader? Then consider the Leaders Circle program. In 2020/21 almost 150 people participated in 16 different leaders circle and shared that this program was a lifesaver that helped them navigate through COVID-19 challenges and changes, and build a bright future.
 
Program Overview
  • Monthly meetings (about 2 hours) September through May
  • 6-10 nonprofit executives (matched by role/experience/org size) for each circle + a skilled facilitator
  • Participants commit to meeting real-time challenges and offering real-life solutions through their real-life experiences 
  • Meetings are confidential, supportive, and create a cycle of learning, sharing, achieving & accountability
*First and last meeting in-person and virtual otherwise

  • Show up - commit to your circle colleagues by making your meetings a priority on your calendar
  • Speak up - ask powerful questions to help members find their own insight
