FINANCE MANAGER

The Finance Manager is tasked with overseeing many aspects of the accounting and finance function for the organization in coordination with and under the supervision of the organization’s CFO. Responsibilities will be dependent upon the organization’s needs at a given time and the background of the candidate, but may include:

 

  • Regular reconciliation of bank and investment accounts
  • Preparation of billings under federal and state grant programs
  • Oversight of the accounts payable and treasury management functions
  • Supervision and review of payroll processing
  • Maintenance of supporting details and reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts (e.g., prepaid expense amortization schedule and fixed asset detail)
  • Assistance with budgeting and preparation of regular budget-to-actual reporting
  • Review, oversight, and training of staff accountant
  • Assisting the CFO with implementing best practices and processes to increase the efficiency and accuracy of the organization’s financial reporting function

 

Recognizing candidate skill sets and backgrounds may vary, the ideal candidate would possess some combination of the following (though not all are required):

5+ years of experience in a Finance Manager or comparable function, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience – preferably at an organization that receives an annual financial audit

  • Though not required, accounting education in a university or comparable setting is a plus
  • Comfort with recording basic journal entries
  • Budgeting experience – preferably in environments with budgets segmented by cost center or department
  • Experience running and managing payroll (an added plus would be managing payroll for organizations that allocate payroll costs across multiple departments)
  • High level of comfort with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions
  • Experience with Financial Edge (or a propensity to pick up a new accounting system quickly)
  • Experience supporting annual financial statement audits
  • High attention to detail and a drive to get things right rather than settling for “close enough”
  • An interest in working collaboratively to support staff and other departments throughout the organization
  • A work mentality rooted in professionalism and ethical behavior
  • Comfort with oversight, training and regular review of accounting staff
  • A problem-solving mentality focused on addressing problems quickly and at their root cause versus settling for band-aid solutions
