Keynote speaker - Pearl Alexander - This highly interactive coaching style keynote will weave powerful relational competencies of connection and courage into a learning experience.  Participants will explore their personal narratives that have shaped their lives, values, beliefs, and associated self-talk.  These scripts will enable deep introspection into the ways they self-protect, may be armoring, shrinking, playing small, or stepping over their most cost values.  Participants will visualize a new leadership paradigm that will leave them more connected with their true selves and techniques to lead greater self-compassion and empathy.

About the conference: 

Securing the Future is an annual Greater Cincinnati program designed to build non-profit resources and skills.  Between 300 - 400 nonprofit executives, board members, fundraisers, funders and community leaders attend each year.  The program began in 2001 and Leadership Council is very honored to host this program since 2016, with the help of a great team of volunteers.  The program presents speakers who will provoke, stimulate, inspire and motivate attendees to gain a broader understanding of current and future trends on the local, national and global level. This conference helps nonprofits to continue to build and secure the future of every individual, and community they serve.

Pearl Alexander, JD, CPCC, ACC, Certified Dare to Lead Facilitator™ serves as executive director of diversity, inclusion, and engagement at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she thrives within the President’s Division as a member of the Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team and professor of practice in the Scheller College of Business. Her portfolio of work involves strategic DEI consulting and communications, inclusive leadership and career development, and organizational DEI engagement.

A featured speaker, or moderator, for leadership institutes, retreats, and conferences, her audiences have included people from all walks of life and industry sectors such as higher education, law, medical schools, government, non-profit, public utilities, and Fortune 500 corporate professionals.

She integrates her expertise in diversity and inclusion principles within her coaching practice and consultancy services with the goal to inspire others to access their personal power and step into “wholeness.”

We recognize Nonprofit Leaders and Nonprofit organizations whose leaders demonstrate great efforts to secure the future of the organizations they serve and support!

Selection Process & Announcement:

Leadership Council for Nonprofits Board of Directors will review nominations and vote on nominees.  Honorees will be announced in March 2022, and the acceptance will be at the Securing the Future conference on April 20, 2022.  Each awardee will also receive a complimentary registration to attend the conference.  See below for criteria of each of the award categories.

Kim Anthony is an author, speaker and leadership coach with a passion to help others to overcome difficult circumstances and walk confidently in their purpose. She has traveled the nation sharing her message of hope, forgiveness and purpose with audiences ranging from inner-city youth to corporate executives.

In 2018, Kim founded the All-Star Moms Outreach, which takes place in conjunction with the NBA All-Star Weekend. It is an event aimed at bringing awareness to the unique challenges low-income single moms face and connecting these moms with local resources and agencies that can assist them in breaking the cycle of poverty. Kim has spent over 20 years helping pro-athletes and their spouses with personal development and spiritual growth. She has also worked on national television as a host, sports analyst, and reporter and currently hosts the podcast, Unfavorable Odds.

Kim’s book, Unfavorable Odds, is an inspiring memoir detailing how she overcame growing up in an environment surrounded by drugs, violence and financial hardships and broke racial barriers in the sport of gymnastics. She was an international gymnastics champion on the U.S. National Team and the first African-American female to be recruited and given a scholarship to compete at UCLA. There she was a 4-time national champion, 6-time All-American and was inducted into the UCLA and Virginia Sports Halls of Fame.

What is race? What stories do you tell yourself about race? Where did the labels we use to think about race such as Asian, Black, and White come from? Why does race generate such strong emotions, fears, and insecurities? Until we grapple with these questions it is impossible to lead efforts to achieve racial equity or to heal racial divides. This session challenges leaders to step courageously into these questions and to be open to reassessing and reckoning with their personal understandings and past responses to race. Even small shifts in thinking can deliver constructive results.
