Board Orientation + Leadership Development (BOLD) 

“Becoming BOLD” is rooted in the idea that participation in a BOLD cohort is a transformational experience. Participants enter the program with the heart and passion to serve and exit the program armed with the expertise, knowledge, and connections to serve boldly.

BOLD participants will develop personally, professionally, and have the opportunity to engage in service.  They begin their six-week journey learning about the nonprofit landscape in Cincinnati and the exclusive opportunities provided to them through this dynamic program. These opportunities include a VIA character strengths assessment, Board Bankcoaching, board observations, and alumni mentorship. Each BOLD class will be held at a different nonprofit location throughout the region, giving participants a chance to interact with a variety of organizations.

 The financial training participants receive, includes real stories from a Leadership Council for Nonprofits executive director who had to turn around her struggling organization. We recognize that our participants desire exposure to local leaders and want to learn from their experience.

 In session three, one executive director will start the conversation around board composition and its relationship to organizational health. Then, participants will dive into the legal responsibilities required of board leaders. Other topics covered through the program are cultural competence, types of boards, and executive transition. BOLD showcases a real example of an executive transition from a Cincinnati nonprofit which will offer greater knowledge of sustainable boards.

 In conversation with one of our BOLD speakers, Shannon Starkey Taylor, Executive Director of Children, Inc. said, “We have built a culture of innovation in our nonprofit organization.” BOLD recognizes social innovation and problem-solving are becoming increasingly imperative to board responsibilities. That said, BOLD is introducing a new session this year which will focus on the future of boards. BOLD will culminate with a capstone in session six, sending participants forward with the knowledge, experience, and expertise to serve boldly.
